The importance of a bridal makeup trial.

Updated: Sep 26, 2023

Why a Bridal Makeup trial is so important.

Your wedding day is going to be the most memorable and cherished day of your life, not to mention the most photographed day of your life. Pictures last a lifetime, so make sure that you find the perfect makeup artist for your big day. It is impossible to redo your wedding day pictures, a bridal makeup trial is so important to avoid the lasting effects of any wedding picture disappointments when it comes to your big day.

What happens during a bridal trial? During your bridal trial we will discuss all details of your wedding such as the number of people in your bridal party, where you will be getting ready and what services you require. I will also provide you with a timeline for the day. Quite often brides can misjudge the time it takes to do hair and makeup so your trial is a good opportunity to go through all of the details and timings.

When booking your bridal makeup artist, make sure that they specialise in bridal makeup. I have had so many brides turn up for a trial with me full of nerves because they have been for a trial elsewhere and the makeup artist has been far to heavy with the makeup and not listened to what the bride wanted. Although it may work out a little more expensive finding out the hard way that the makeup artist you booked is not great at bridal makeup, I always think it’s best to find out at the trial and not on your wedding day! When you have a makeup trial you have time to put things right and if you don’t gel with your artist you have time to find someone else that you like.

Your trial is the perfect opportunity to get to know your makeup artist’s personality and their skill level, and to determine if they are the right fit for you. You want to be comfortable with your makeup artist and make sure they are able to execute your desired style or makeup look. While most professional makeup artists try to work with mostly hypoallergenic products, it is possible that you may be allergic to an ingredient in a cosmetic. Your wedding day is definitely not the day you want to discover you are allergic to latex eyelash glue or the pigments in eye shadow. A bridal trial gives you the opportunity to test out not only the final look, but also the products used.

Once your desired makeup look is perfected, all of the products that have been used will be recorded in my diary and pictures will also be taken to enable me to recreate the same look that we did at the trial. You can then have complete confidence in knowing what you will look like on the day.

Wedding mornings can be pretty hectic especially if you are getting married early and you have a large bridal party requiring hair and makeup. Knowing what makeup look you are going for in advance can also save valuable time on the wedding morning.
